Learn how YOU can help someone in distress.

Older adults have high rates of late-onset mental health disorders, such as anxiety and depression, and low rates of identification and treatment. In this course you will learn to identify the warning signs of mental illness and help an individual connect with appropriate help. MHFA is sponsored by the National Council on Behavioral Health. This course is appropriate for anyone age 18 and older.

In this course you will learn:

  • Risk factors and warning signs of mental health challenges common in older adults (age 60+)
  • To understand the impact and common treatments of mental health challenges
  • The skills, resources and knowledge to help an individual in crisis connect with appropriate resources.
  • How to support an older individual  who is developing signs and symptoms of mental illness
  • A 5-step action plan and how to apply it

Taught by Denise Kavenik, certified MHFA instructor. Her passion to educate others about mental health emanates from personal experience with loved ones. She successfully implemented the ASIST model with a family member and knows from personal experience that there is always hope.
